Water industry gathers to discuss future of leakage

Over 120 representatives from the water industry and its stakeholders attended the 8th Annual Water UK Leakage Conference chaired by Gary Dixon, Operations Director – Water for United Utilities.

Ian Stephens of Ofwat began the conference, on 18 October, with a review of leakage performance for 2006/07. This was followed by Rob Warren of Tynemarch Systems Engineering, Dene Marshallsay of WRc and Dennis Grimshaw of RPS examining the post-Tripartite studies which were then the subject of a panel discussion, aimed at gaining stakeholder views on the studies, at the end of the morning session.

Afternoon Panel Discussion

Afternoon speakers included David Dangerfield of Thames Water, Neil Tansley of Severn Trent, Dennis Dellow of Northumbrian Water and David Hellier of the Energy and Utility Skills Council.

Later in the afternoon there was a panel discussion focusing on the long term goals for leakage over the next 25 years, whether these are realistic targets and how they will be achieved.

Almost half of the delegates also attended the popular pre-conference networking dinner, where they wined and dined in Coventry's Royal Court Hotel.
