Las Vegas Spring Convention
Bigger and better than ever - this year's very successful Spring Convention in Las Vegas really had the 50,000 plus delegates on their toes. Here's our round-up from the event....
- The international contingent this year was up by 40% on the previous year, reflecting the trend for cross-border and global business taking place. The Chairman's Gold Circle – has been set up to assist international delegates to prepare for and attend the event. Most welcome was the International Lounge - giving delegates a safe-haven away from the chaos of the other 50,000 delegates. ICSC have a new Chinese representative called Solomon Xu
- ICSC have just launched and were promoting the CDP - a qualification in design, development and construction. The intention is that it should be globally recognised, to sit aside their current qualifications in marketing, leasing and shopping centre management
- First-time ICSC exhibiter, Abu Dhabi based Aldar, wowed exhibiters with their sound, light and dance show, showcasing Yas Island, a massive 2,500 hectare development starting this year on the edge of Abu Dhabi...Yas Island will not only be host to a 3.2 million-square-foot retail centre, it will also include the world's first Ferrari theme park, golf courses, a motor sports race track...the list is endless
- The Focus on Russia – Ukraine conference session highlighted the marked awareness and interest in Russia for retailers, with predictions that interest in this untapped and wealthy area will grow sharply over the next few years
- The hot topic for delegates was sustainability; ICSC rose to the challenge this year hosting two dedicated green areas, the Green Zone and the Green Pavilion
- Addressing the skills gap, ICSC have launched the Next Generation network – this year’s must-have ticket was for their networking reception at the Palms and Rain Nightclub
- ICSC’s outgoing Chairman, John Bucksbaum, who has made environmental protection one of the themes of his chairmanship, made his point when he arrived in his hybrid Toyota Prius.
- Yvonne Court (Partner and Head of Research, Cushman & Wakefield), long-time friend and business contact of Lodestar, was presented with a Distinguished Service Award. Yvonne has a doctorate in population studies and has conducted academic and private sector research for a variety of European and global projects
Lodestar manages ICSC’s European partnership and sponsorship programmes as well as account management for some of ICSC’s major members in Europe. This year we are working with ICSC to develop the global partnership and sponsorship programmes. We are launching ICSC’s Retail Connections event which will take place on 29 January 2008, bringing together the leasing and retail sectors.
