The water sector's annual high-profile City event 2007
As part of our ongoing programme of work for Water UK, Lodestar worked with the policy team at Water UK to deliver their high-profile flagship event.
Over 100 people braved the snow last week to contribute to Water UK's 7th Annual City Conference on Thursday, 8 February. Influential representatives from across the water sector including Richard Bird (Water Director, Defra), Regina Finn (Chief Executive, Ofwat), Tony Smith (Chief Executive, CC Water), Baroness Young (Chief Executive, EA) and Doug King (Vice Chairman, Energy, Infrastructure & Utilities, Deloitte), addressed delegates and discussed the key financial issues for the water industry in the run up to the next Price Review (PR09).
A key part of the event was to gather the opinion of delegates with interactive voting on current issues including compulsory metering and drought. Deloitte will produce a report on the findings, which importantly
include not only the views of the water industry but also those of its investors and other stakeholders.
Regina Finn, Chief Executive, Ofwat explored Ofwat's key issues in the run up to PR09, including: industry structure; ownership structures; gearing; cost of captial, whilst also looking at setting prices for the future.
Pamela Taylor, Chief Executive, Water UK also explored Water UK's priorities for PR09 which are:
- Water resources - supply and security and levels of service
- Continued investment and infrastructure
- Climate change, how do we adapt operations?
- PR09 - must be sustainable and add value and match/work alongside the Government's sustainability policy
