The Water Framework Directive

10th Jun 2009

The Water Framework Directive is a mechanism to drive and achieve sustainable water resources, to manage and control impacts at source and to collaborate for the long-term. This is why Lodestar brought together the water industry, its regulators, Government and a broad range of stakeholders on Thursday, 4 June to discuss the latest issues surrounding the WFD, its implementation, funding and role in wider water policy.

The event was not only successful but a great first step in delivering Water UK’s aim - that sustainable implementation of the WFD depends on policy taking a new direction and building a process of collaboration between all relevant sectors.

Discussions from the day will be used to inform Water UK’s response to the Environment Agency’s draft River Basin Management Plans consultation.

Delegates gave positive feedback on leaving the event and commented on the diverse range of stakeholders in attendance, the high quality speakers and the timeliness of the event to coincide with the RBMPs consultations.
