The Annual ICSC Prague Conference this year took place in Prague on 28th & 29th April. The conference was a huge success with many networking relationships developed and many important views on the industry and its future expressed.
The industry is growing and although the worst risks in the industry have passed, it is important to still proceed cautiously in order to continue the growth and successful adaptation (Joerg Banzhaf, Chair of the 2010 European Conference and Managing Director of ECE Projektmanagement in Germany).
Moreover, the growth and the success of the industry are based on the research and knowledge as the principals of real investment remain the same. According to Chaim Katzman – Chairman of Gazit Inc, the focus on long-term success should be the main centre of attention for the industry. The importance of commitment has never been greater so that the industry is still attractive, thus successful. Although there are some shopping centres in secondary locations that find it difficult to attract customers, top locations still attract top brands, and such locations are maintaining their rental levels.
Glenn Aaronson (Multi Development – CEO) believes that the nearest future of shopping centres depends on redevelopment and improvement of the existing shopping centres. This would form up to 80% of business over the next few years. All the views expressed at the conference contribute towards a positive outlook for the future of the shopping centre industry
